In 1831, he finally finished Notre Dame de Paris. The second, Hernani, became the subject for a bitter and protracted debate between French Classicists and Romantics. The first, Marion de Lorme (1829), was censored for its candid portrayal of a courtesan. The following year, despite a contract to begin work on a novel called Notre Dame de Paris, he set to work on two plays. His 1827 play, Cromwell, embraced the tenets of Romanticism, which he laid out in the play’s preface. In 1823, Hugo published his first novel, Han d’Islande. In 1822, Hugo married his childhood sweetheart, Adele Foucher, and published his first volume of poetry, which won him a pension from Louis XVIII. Although he studied law, he also founded a literary review to which he and other emerging writers published their work. Hugo, the son of one of Napoleon’s officers, decided while still a teenager to become a writer. Distracted by other projects, Hugo had continually postponed his deadlines for delivering the book to his publishers, but once he sat down to write it, he completed the novel in only four months. On January 15, 1831, Victor Hugo finishes writing Notre Dame de Paris, also known as The Hunchback of Notre Dame. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() The story picks up where the original "Hissers" leaves off, but I had no problem reading "Hissers II" first. Thomas is a great new take on the whole Zombie trope, with a lot of action, heart-stopping terror and just-in-the-nick-of-time escapades. The book really leads into what exciting things could happen in book 3 (like the infected trilogy by Scott Sigler). I enjoyed the addition of the side characters and though they were more interesting than the protagonist's themselves. And in terms of uniqueness, the zombies were really unique and more like the flood in Halo - an overwhelming force (except fire doesn't work). Really graphic, violent and supremely disgusting. Separated from Connor, travelling with her parents, Amarita thinks about rejoining Connor and knows only where he planned to go, but she believes that nothing would stop him from getting there.Īs far as zombie books go, it was alright. With the formula USB, Connor has to get to Amondyne labs to see if they can decipher it because Nicole's dad worked there and that's the only lead he has. Connor and Amarita have survived the mess in their small town, destroyed by the zombie plague started by the military. Hissers 2: Death March is a decent middle book. ![]() ![]() ![]() We picture the chaotic deaths of young frightened men and the pain of those left behind. He translated these experiences of trench warfare and military artillery power into his poetry with potent imagery. In this poem Owen shows that the glory portrayed by those writers is an illusion. As a soldier on the frontlines of battle, Owen saw the atrocities of war firsthand. These aspects were ignored by others - such as Jessie Pope - who wrote propaganda persuading young men to fight for their country. As Owen was a soldier himself, he witnessed the brutality and horrors of war. ![]() ![]() ![]() REPRODUCTION WITHOUT WRITTEN PERMISSION IS EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED. What he’s doing with Dorian Gray is treading a very fine line.” Wilde's purpose was to break out of what Lady Bracknell called the ‘three-volume novel of more than usually revolting sentimentality' “He’d reached a point when he was in danger of becoming respectable and conventional – in 1889 he was married with 2.4 children, living in slightly bohemian Chelsea. “The manuscript shows the workings of Wilde’s mind as he was writing it,” said Merlin Holland, the author’s 72-year-old grandson, who has written a foreword to the new edition.
